StoriesToon glossary

Relay comic: can readers continue a published comic story?

Yes, but only when the published work is eligible and its creator has enabled continuation or relay options. The continuation becomes a separate branch while the original work remains available.

What is a relay comic?

A relay comic is a published comic that can continue beyond one creator's version. Another creator can pick up the story or take it in a new direction, creating a connected continuation without replacing the original.

Find an eligible public comic

The work must be published and have continuation or relay options available.

Choose a direction

Continue the existing plot or create a branch from a moment where the story could change.

Keep both versions discoverable

The original stays available while the new branch gives readers another path to explore.

Relay comic vs. branching comic

01

Relay comic

Describes the creator relationship: another creator takes the pen and continues a published story.

02

Branching comic

Describes the story structure: a story develops into more than one possible path or future.

03

How they connect

A relay is one way to create a branch. The terms overlap, but they describe different viewpoints.

What can be published?

StoriesToon currently states that eligible Photo Comic works can be published to the public gallery. Story Import projects remain private, so an imported novel or manuscript should not be described as part of the public relay pool unless the current product rules change.

Before saving, exporting, or publishing a generated continuation, review the characters, dialogue, names, cultural details, page order, and visual continuity.

See the Crimson Vow publishing case and the official WEBTOON Canvas release for a public continuing-comic example.

Relay comic questions

Can readers continue a published comic story?

Yes, on eligible published works where continuation or relay options are available. The original creator's publishing settings determine whether another creator can continue it.

Does a branch replace the original comic?

No. A branch is a separate continuation. The original work remains available.

Is every public comic open for continuation?

No. Continuation depends on the settings of the individual work and current product rules.

Can a Story Import project enter the public relay pool?

Not under the current guide. Story Import projects remain private, while eligible Photo Comic works can be published to the public gallery.

How should I review a generated continuation?

Review the page, dialogue, names, cultural details and page order before saving, exporting or publishing. Generated results can vary.
